CIL 2008: Mobile Trends (AKA iPhones are Sexy)

Tue, 08 Apr 2008 19:17:38 PDT
One of the major points I will be taking away from this conference is the idea that we really need to be watching mobile trends closely. Very closely. Megan Fox’s presentation on the topic was fast paced and almost overwhelming… which I found quite fitting for the topic. I highly recommend checking out her presentation slides…. I couldn’t possibly get all of the info into a post! To summarize some of the market statistics: 75 % of all US adults have cell phones 90% of college students have

News Flash: Husbands are More Work

Tue, 08 Apr 2008 19:26:13 PDT
I’m hoping Lisa doesn’t hear about the University of Michigan’s latest findings. As part of a detailed study on “housework trends”, researchers have concluded that husbands create an extra seven hours a week of housework for women. Duh-uh. Lisa’s been telling me that for years. Is this just because men are slobs or, as I suspect, we just want someone to replace our Mommy? (After all, only someone special can wash our dirty underoos.) Then again, it’s possible we’re just seven times more busy t

The Key to Understand Outsourcing Trends in India

Tue, 08 Apr 2008 19:48:30 PDT

NY-26: DCCC Will Stay Out Of Primary

Tue, 08 Apr 2008 19:53:17 PDT
Rochester Turning gave great coverage to this today. From Newsday: The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee would like to avoid a bruising internal battle as they look to win the Republican district. Reynolds, a once-powerful member of the House GOP majority, announced last month he will not seek re-election. Rep. Chris Van Hollen, the head of the DCCC, told reporters in a conference call Monday that "we've got a number of good candidates up in that district." Reynolds' district stretc

No MLM Meetings!

Tue, 08 Apr 2008 20:00:16 PDT
I was sent a link to a new MLM company today and the first thing that the "hip" video on the company front page touted was, "No Meetings". Ugh. That is about as smart as someone saying "The Internet Doesn't Work For Networkers". It's about time that the Web Nutjobs and the Face to Face Nutjobs face reality.... 1. I have never heard of anyone building a long term residual income without getting face to face with their team. Quote me: Without relationships there is no long term Network Market

Using data from the US Department of Justice, the chart graphs the rate violent crime trends over the past 30 years or so. Yup, about since videogames were invented. Check it out:

While U.S. is Busy Fighting the Nonexistent 'War on Terrorism': Food Shortages Threaten Global Security

Tue, 08 Apr 2008 20:04:47 PDT
When the U.S. was battling the entire Soviet Union, the defense budget was smaller than it is today. That's right … to defend the nation against a handful of loons … to pretend that the threat is big when it isn't, the U.S. is spending nearly a trillion dollars every year on defense. Oh, and the military is bogged down fighting a war that never should have been fought. And the net result? The world is ten-times less safe. But that's the good news, because now a world-wide food shortage has beco

Unlikey style icon: The Artful Dodger!

Tue, 08 Apr 2008 20:22:08 PDT
“You’ve got to pick a pocket or two.” Such were the immortal words sung by the Artful Dodger (in ‘Oliver’, most famous of all orphan musicals) and suprisingly apt advice in these times of magpie-like fashion arrangements. Everybody needs a little bit of style inspiration on a dull Wednesday morning and and although celebrities seem ...]

Is yoga better than other exercise for boosting self-esteem? Cognitive Daily]

Tue, 08 Apr 2008 20:46:18 PDT
In our little college town, one of the most popular fitness trends over the past few years has been yoga. Friends and acquaintances often suggest we join them in their favorite class, claiming not only that we'll get stronger and more flexible, but that we'll feel better about ourselves. But Greta and I both have fitness routines that work well for us. I like to go for a morning run, I bike, and I play soccer, and Greta not only walks for 30 minutes on the treadmill every day, she also walks t

Tue, 08 Apr 2008 20:51:27 PDT
By now you most likely know about Radiohead's experimental release program for their newest album "In Rainbows". Basically, the band set up a site where their fans could buy the album for whatever price they wanted to pay. People could have paid $0 or $100 if they wanted. You can read my original post along with what I decided to pay here. Radiohead is continuing to find innovative ways to allow fans to own the brand in a personalized way. The latest idea is a contest in partnership with App
